Incident Response Readiness
Due to today’s interconnected world, nearly every organization faces a real possibility of a cyber attack.
Many cyber attacks can be defeated by solid and well-maintained security plans. However, some attacks will eventually evade such safeguards and inflict their impact on the targeted organization.
Managing a cyber incident response is a complex task that involves the coordination of many decisions, resources, tasks and information.
Events and threats must be understood. Decisions must be made and technical measures must be deployed so further damage can be avoided.
Stakeholders must be updated. Evidence must be preserved. All under intense time pressure and scrutiny.
A further complication of targeted cyber attacks is that there is an intelligent adversary focused on your estate; any actions you take may alert them and cause them to change tactics and potentially worsen the attack if you are not prepared and able to react.
Without a well planned and rehearsed response, such incidents can quickly develop into unmanageable, unpredictable and even chaotic situations.
SilverSky Can Help
SilverSky cyber security experts can help you develop and test your incident response plan. Our experience with small and mid-sized regulated businesses ensures you have a plan that is efficient and actionable. Services include:

Incident Response Plan Development / Review
Businesses are under constant attack by threat actors using malware, rootkits, social engineering, or other tools to infiltrate company information systems and extract confidential data. In addition, security incidents can arise even without such actors – laptops go missing, employees make poor security choices, or inadvertent misconfiguration sets your company on a collision course with data-protection regulations. In the cybersecurity world, we know that breach or data loss (whether accidental or deliberate) is inevitable. Having a proper plan in place can help mitigate the ensuing damage to your business. Using industry-approved practices, SilverSky’s experienced Incident Response team develops customized response plans including frameworks, playbooks, and quick-reference material. Taken together, the plan guides client technical and executive teams through the process of identifying and responding to security incidents affecting their networks and intellectual properties.
Incident Response Readiness Review
In addition to having an Incident Response team in place and a plan to follow in case of emergency, a well-prepared business should have a clear, documented view of their security program’s maturity level — both as it exists now and as the company intends it to be. SilverSky’s Incident Response Readiness Review is a discovery process in which highly trained individuals conduct a series of interviews to assess the business’ current preparedness. Upon completion of the process, the customer receives a full written report, including a list of priorities for effectively addressing any weaknesses or challenges discovered. Further, the customer will be provided with a detailed, actionable spreadsheet-based record of the company’s current security posture, strengths, and areas for improvement.

Tabletop Exercise
In the event of a breach, it is crucial that each member of the Incident Response team (including its nontechnical members) understands and feels comfortable in their crucial role. Failure to establish, properly train, and educate employees on their specific roles and responsibilities of the Incident Response process can result in grave damage to business operations, including financial loss, reputational harm, and regulatory exposure. Silversky’s Incident Response team builds and conducts tabletop exercises – guided events that provide a step-by-step walkthrough of real-world situations in order to challenge and scrutinize the Incident Response capabilities of the client’s organization. These intensive simulated exercises give the clients keen insight into the strengths and weaknesses of their own incident response process, and highlight areas in which processes and participants can grow stronger. We work with clients to customize each event to their individual circumstances and experience level; alternately, we offer a selection of high-likelihood scenarios against which clients can test their mettle.
